Warblington School is proud to have been accredited with the Silver Rights Aware accreditation as part of the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools award. This means everything within our ethos and values is based around the human rights of all children. Currently 1.5 million children in the UK attend a Rights Respecting School, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. Warblington School is one of only a handful of schools in Hampshire to have this award.

As a Rights Respecting School, where children’s rights are promoted and realised, the adults and students work towards this goal together. As we start our journey towards achieving the Gold: Rights Respecting award we will be working to embed what we have achieved within the Silver: Rights Aware level. We were thrilled that our rights respecting vision was clearly experienced by Ofsted when they visited us in May 2018 and said “The school’s highly effective and consistent focus on respect for people’s ‘rights’ contributes most effectively to pupils’ evident good behaviour, respectful relationships with staff and consideration of those less fortunate than themselves.”
The work we have already embedded into the school curriculum has enabled us to ensure that our students are provided with ‘outstanding’ opportunities to develop their personal development. “Through the curriculum, especially tutor time, pupils’ personal development is outstanding. They study a broad range of topics related to being thoughtful citizens. Their appreciation of spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues is strong.” These aspects are central to our beliefs for all students at Warblington School.
To achieve Gold recognition in the future, the school will be (amongst other things):-
- working towards deepening and widening the knowledge and understanding of Articles across the whole school community
- enabling all pupils to look at global issues
- exploring ways to reference correlation between improved outcomes for pupils and the implementation of a rights-based approach across the school
- continuing to develop the use of the language of rights and respect to strengthen school systems for resolving conflict (such as the use of restorative justice) and the promotion of positive attitudes and actions for rights
- building on activities such as charity based work in the school by enabling and empowering pupils, as appropriate, to become advocates and campaigners for the rights of all children and young people locally and globally
